Some diesel drivers are getting compensation because they purchased or leased diesel cars or vans in England or Wales between the years 2007 and 2020. It was found that some leading car manufacturers such as Mercedes, Vauxhall, Renault, and Peugeot used a cheat device or illegal “defeat devices” in diesel cars so that the vehicles appeared as though they had reduced NOx emissions to meet the EU regulations.

The vehicles were then mis-sold on the basis that they were more environmentally friendly. This scandal is known as the Emissions Scandal or Dieselgate. As such, diesel car owners are able to claim against certain car manufacturers for financial loss that has been caused by misrepresentation for the following reasons:

  • Car buyers or leasers would never have bought the vehicle if they knew that the emissions levels did not meet regulatory standards.
  • They paid more for a vehicle that was supposed to be environmentally friendly.
  • The vehicle had to be altered to comply with the emissions standards which could have resulted in poor vehicle performance or worse fuel efficiency. In this case, car owners would have to pay extra costs to fix the car.

Which Manufacturers Can I Make a Diesel Claim Against?

If you were sold a vehicle with the following manufacturers between 2007-2020, you may be eligible to make a claim:

Peugeot, Porsche, Renault, Seat, Skoda, Audi, Citroen, Nissan, Vauxhall, Mercedes, BMW, Ford, Jaguar, Land Rover, Mini, VW & Volvo.

How Do I Know if I Am Eligible to Make a Claim?

You are eligible to make a claim if you bought or leased a car on finance in the UK that was produced by one of the above car manufacturers. You could have bought the car new or secondhand, but you don’t have to own the car at the time of making the claim.

If you are unsure if you can make an emissions claim, you can input your car registration number on our website and we can tell you if your vehicle is eligible.

What Should I Do if I Want to Make a Dieselgate Claim?

Diesel car owners are able to claim for financial loss that has been caused due to misrepresentation or being mis-sold. If you believe you are eligible to make an emissions claim, you could get compensated £1000s, but there is no guarantee that claims will be successful. The first step will be to check that you are eligible to make the claim by verifying your car registration number. Then, you should contact a law firm to help you make the claim as these are complex legal proceedings that require expert judgement.

Johnson Law Group is bringing a group claim against leading vehicle manufacturers over the alleged ‘defeat devices’ installed in diesel engines to cheat the EU emissions tests. If you would like to get more advice on whether you are eligible to make a claim, please contact us on 0161 5132305 or complete our contact form.
