JD Sports are the latest company to confirm they have been hacked, with the news breaking today that around 10 million people have had their personal data compromised. Customers who purchased items on the JD Sports, Size? Blacks or Millets websites between November 2018 and October 2020 may have had their personal details, including their home addresses, phone numbers and emails stolen. At present, card details and passwords are not believed to have been compromised.

Jamie Patton, Managing Director of Johnson Law Group, said: “It’s a little bit concerning that it has taken this amount of time for customers to be informed of the data breach. The attack took place between November 2018 and October 2020 and while it hasn’t been confirmed when JD Sports discovered the breach had taken place, five years is a considerably lengthy amount of time. Our advice to anyone who has received an email from JD Sports about the breach is to change all of your passwords – not just the password related to this account. If you can utilise complex passwords infilled by your computer or smart phone that then relies on face ID that would be best.

“Don’t click on any links received in random emails or messages on social media such as Instagram or Snapchat – even if the message purports to be from someone you know – always check with that person first, and not via the social media you received the message from.

“If you remain concerned and wish to speak to someone about your rights as a consumer off the back of this breach then we’d be happy to advise.”
